Before you read this list-if you’re not a self-development nerd like me, you won’t like any of these books. I’m personally not a fan of fiction but am obsessed with anything “self-help” and developmental. If you aren’t into reading, you can also get Amazon Audible’s free one-month trial here.
One of my goals for 2017 was to read 2 books a month and so far I’ve been ahead. I think I’m at 17 with both listening and reading. I’m pretty proud of myself especially because I think I read a total of 4 for the entire year last year and that was starting in November….. Anyway, I love sharing what I’ve been doing so thought I’d put my favorites for anyone else looking for a new summer read 😉
Here are my favorites from the past year (in no particular order):
- The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone
The 10x Rule is all about not settling for ordinary and taking massive action when you’re after big goals. Keep getting “no’s”-talk with 10x more people. The whole book is based on the concept that if you’re doing what’s “normal”, you’ll get normal results. Grant Cardone will show you exactly where to start, what to do, and how to follow up on each action you take with “more action to achieve Massive Action results”.
2. You Are a BadA** by Jen Sincero
My all time favorite book, by my all time favorite author. I can’t tell you how many times I read and listened to this book-maybe 12? It was my secret Santa gift to every white elephant party last year. I probably bought 10 copies just to send to all my friends. Jen Sincero is hilarious, quirky, and fun. She basically sums up a lot of Napoleon Hill’s principles in an “easy-to-read”, more entertaining version. If you are lacking inspiration, READ THIS BOOK. You will definitely get your MOJO back and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
3. Edgar Cayce’s 12 Lesson’s in Personal Spirituality by Kevin J. Todeschi
Edgar Cayce’s 12 Lesson’s in Spirituality was enlightening, to say the least. If you are interested in soul growth and personal transformation, this is the book for you. No matter what religion you are apart of, your personal spirituality and relationship with God are important. Cayce is very neutral in his writings and has concepts that can be applied to all people, no matter background. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading again in a few months.
4. The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris
I finished this book on a 2-hour plane ride back from Denver last year… that’s how good it was. Tim Ferris describes “the new rich” based on principles designed around automation of your life. Who doesn’t want to work only 4-hours a week? ….I’ll wait.
5. The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein
(PSA: I copied this from Amazon’s site because I cannot top this description-LOVED THIS BOOK**)
Gabrielle Bernstein teaches listeners how to transform their fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. Each story and lesson in the book guides listeners to release the blocks to what they most long for: happiness, security, and clear direction. The lessons help listeners relinquish the need to control so they can relax into a sense of certainty and freedom. Listeners will learn to stop chasing life and truly live. Making the shift from fear to faith will give listeners a sense of power in a world that all too often makes them feel utterly powerless. When the tragedies of the world seem overwhelming, this book will help guide them back to their true power.
Gabrielle says, “My commitment with this book is to wake up as many people as possible to their connection to faith and joy. In that connection, we can be guided to our true purpose: to be love and spread love. These words can no longer be cute buzz phrases that we merely post on social media. Rather, these words must be our mission. The happiness, safety, and security we long for lies in our commitment to love.”
When listeners follow this path, they’ll begin to feel a swell of energy move through them. They will find strength when they are down, synchronicity and support when they’re lost, safety in the face of uncertainty, and joy when they are otherwise in pain. Follow the secrets revealed in this book to unleash the presence of your power and know always that The Universe Has Your Back.
6. She Means Business: Turn Your Ideas into Realities by Carrie Green
I found Carrie Green on Facebook and was interested in an organization she founded, F.E.A. (Female Entrepreneur Association), then came across her book. Ofcourse, I had to support 😉 I actually used my audible credit for that month and enjoyed listening to her British accent-she is so cute! She Means Business is mainly about overcoming your individual scripts and turning your dreams into realities! She gives great step-by-steps and even has a Facebook group you are able to join if you purchase the book!
7. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK. I’ve read The Secret time and time again. It is SUCH a classic. Like…. everyone should read this book at least twice in their lifetime. Then watch the documentary on Netflix. I’m not even going to give a description, just READ IT. You literally have to.
8. You Are a BadA** at Making Money by Jen Sincero
You are a BadA** at Making Money is exactly what the name entails, making money. Jen Sincero talks about how money is just energy and how to make it and attract it into your life. Like I said, Jen Sincero is my favorite author so I was on a waiting list when this book came out in April. It was a good book, but not as good as You are a BadA**. Typical, right?
9. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Based on the principle that we become what we think about. The book was first published during the Great Depression and was based on Andrew Carnegie’s belief to help you become successful in all lines of work. This is a MUST READ.
10. Intentional Living: Choosing a Life That Matters by John C. Maxwell
Who doesn’t love John Maxwell? This guy is literally 70 years old running marathons and writing books, such an inspiration in every way! I’m halfway through this book but know it’s already going to be one of my favorites! In Intentional Living, John Maxwell helps guide you to take that first step and the ones that follow, on your personal path through a life that actually matters.
If you decide to read any of these books or have already, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to type a comment in the section below or email me.
Happy reading 😉
