How I Made Over $400 This Month Blogging!!
YOU GUYS!!!! Holy Guacamole! I never thought in a million years I could ever be one of those people on Pinterest making real life money from their blog. But it’s official, WE DID IT! The past two months were filled with endless prayers, headaches, and clueless moments that have FINALLY paid off and now that I’ve learned how to do it, I hope I can help you now too.
Before I catch myself knee deep in a rant, let me just bring it back to my “why” for a sec and the whole reason for trying to start this whole “blogging biz” thang.
K so I have a long list of why’s ranging anywhere from student loan debt, car loan debt, and some weeks of having to choose between a mani/pedi or eating sandwiches until my next paycheck (mani/pedi always wins btw). But my biggest why is that I’ve always wanted to take my pawpaw to The Battle of Gettysburg. He’s was a huge Civil War fan so I wanted to be able to afford to take Him and my family on a trip as well as give them the life I felt they deserved. We’ve always been okay financially until my pawpaw had to retire. By this time I was in college and supporting myself but it was hard to see my family have to adjust to living differently on a social security check they worked their whole entire lives for. Long story short, this past December was when I decided to take things into my own hands and really try to earn extra money.
Fast forward to now, and I unfortunately never got to take him to Gettysburg. However, the letter he left me asked to make sure my meme and dad were taken care of so, of course, the urge to make extra money got stronger. It may sound silly, but even though he’s in Heaven I still want him to know things are covered down here.
I am a firm believer in the fact that you create your reality and anything is possible. The bible even says,
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22.
And oh, have I prayed.
AND IT’S ACTUALLY POSSIBLE-HOLY MOLY!
At times when I wasn’t seeing any results and wanted to quit there was always a voice in the back of my head that said, “Don’t stop yet, you’re almost there.” And sure enough, here we are 🙂
I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance…. Unless you have a lot
of passion about this, you’re not going to survive. You’re going to give it up. So you’ve got to have an idea, or a problem or a wrong that you want to right that you’re passionate about; otherwise, you’re not going to have the perseverance to stick it through.
Alright, alright, alright. Enough about me. Here’s how I did it so you can too:
First off, I applied to become an affiliate and partner with these companies because I was either already using them for my blog or used it and had great success:
- WP Engine
- Convert Kit
- Wealthy Affiliate
- How to Make Your First Affiliate Sale using Pinterest by Elise McDowell
I strayed away from affiliate marketing the first year and a half I had my blog because I didn’t want to seem sales-y or scammy but realized I only talk about products/services/etc. I actually believe in and love and came to realize it wouldn’t be helping anyone if I kept all the goodies to myself!
So here’s the down low on each:
Tailwind is great for scheduling your posts ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the week. I use Canva to make my graphics for my post then schedule them on Tailwind on Sunday’s.
ShareASale is my favorite network affiliate partner because I don’t have to bounce around from website to website trying to find links and banners-they’re all in one place! It’s my favorite “one-stop” shop to finding and applying for merchants and handling everything I need in one place.
WP Engine is for when you want to take your website to the next level and make yourself a “.com”! They have a generous affilaite program once you are a “.com” and is currently what I’m using for my site right now.
ConvertKit is THE best e-mail service and I’ve tried multiple. It’s easy to use and understand, affordable, and have EXCELLENT customer service. I plan to stay with ConvertKit for the next few years.
Affilorama is a great affiliate network and learning tool for beginners. I haven’t delved deep but have definitely taken advantage of their trainings. They too, have a generous affiliate program you can sign up for.
Lastly, I really enjoyed Elise McDowell’s course, “How to Make Your First Affiliate Sale using Pinterest“. It was very affordable and I was able to put everything I learned into practice that evening. The only piece that I thought that was missing from the course was that I wasn’t apart of any Pinterest group boards beforehand and didn’t know how to join. However, I made a blog post on my review with public group boards you can join beforehand that you can access here. The best part about this course was that it brought more traffic to my blog and traffic is key if you want to earn any type of income. This course is a must, but do try to join some group boards beforehand so you can utilize the course fully when you do decide to implement its strategies.
Out of all the things I’ve tried to do to monetize my blog, these have proven to be the most beneficial by bringing in the most amount of income for me. This is a great place to start if you are looking for affiliate programs to join as a beginner or if you are just wanting some e xtra knowledge on the subject. I plan to write a post on how to use each of these platforms and link them on this page, but if you need help before then please don’t hesitate to reach out via email! I know it can all be so confusing in the beginning but it’s 100% possible if monetizing your blog has been one of your goals.
I hope you enjoyed this post half as much as I enjoyed typing it. Thanks so much for reading.
Best of luck!
