The Benefits of B-12
Hi hi hello! Today I want to get into something that’s really gotten me off my tail lately, enter: B12 shots. Weekly.
Yes, you heard me right. Weekly.
Before I get into the who’s, whats, and why’s, let me preface this by saying I’m not your doctor. This is just what I’ve done.
I needed a kick in the ass.
And that’s why I crown B12 as King of 2021!!
Since March, I’ve been getting these injections weekly from It’s a Secret Med Spa in Downtown Frisco. I love it! It’s my weekly girl talk (boys, skincare, newest treatments, the usual ;)), it’s in a setting that I love (SPA!), and more importantly, it helps keep me feeling amazing! Plus, I mean… self-care? Right?
Before I decided to get these, I was S L A C K I N G. It was right after the holiday’s, getting broken up with days before my birthday and Valentine’s Day, the Texas snowstorm disaster, nearing the end of the panny and all it’s weirdness, I could probably go on but I’m an optimist here. I was in a weird spot, to say the least. Plus, let’s add that I’ve been trying to wheen myself off coffee at the worst possible time so honestly, what better time to talk about how these B12 shots gave me the kick I needed to stay on track despite the bullshit.
So first off, what is B12?
B12, Cobalamin, is necessary for cell reproduction. It’s a water-soluble vitamin, which basically means it is carried to the body’s tissues but not stored in the body. If a vitamin is water-soluble, our body can only keep a small supply so we need to replenish often either with our diet or supplements.
Check with your physician to see if you are deficient in either B12 or Folate. A few symptoms of deficiency are pale yellow skin, depression, irritability, sore/red tongue, mouth ulcers, blurred vision. You don’t need an order from your physician, or to be deficient, at least in TX, so it’s important to do your own research.
Here are Some Benefits:
● Increases energy levels, focus, & concentration (anyone else feel like they lost brain cells during the pandemic??)
● Improving mood (yes, pls!)
● Can boost metabolism & immune system
● Helps improve sleep patterns (balance circadian rhythms, 2021!)
● Supports bone health
● Can prevent certain types of hair loss
● Maintains healthy skin and hair
Although B12 is important, so are the other seven B Vitamins. The best way to get yourself in gear, myself included, is through diet, exercise, and enough hydration. Which I’m also doing. But since I was deficient in both B12 and Folate, this was exactly what I needed. I do have friends that get this injection weekly and have no side effects, check with your NP or MD.
If you do decide to try it out or have been getting B12 shots, let me know how your experience was/is in the comments below!
